Conserving the environment to protect health is becoming a central concern for many city dwellers. An exhibition prepared by Veolia Environnement explains the close relationship between these two imperatives as part of encouraging everyone to play their part in improving environmental health.

Open from April 16 to June 1, 2008 at the Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie in Paris, the exhibition will then visit the cities of France before touring the world.

This exhibition looks at the effects of human activity on our environment and our health. As increasing urbanization threatens to concentrate and exacerbate pollution, this issue is becoming a major challenge: by 2050, two-thirds of the world's population will be living in cities.

It is designed to help us appreciate that we all have an active role to play in addressing these challenges successfully, whether at local authority level or as private individuals, environmental services professionals, companies or associations.

Veolia Environnement, the world leader in environmental services, has been delivering effective solutions to local authorities and industry for over 150 years in the four key areas of: water management, waste recycling, recovery and processing, energy management and transport for freight and passengers.

Designed with the help of a science and education committee (with members drawn from AFSSET, CNAM, UNESCO and the French National Commission for UNESCO) and the support of the Cité de la Santé at the Cité des Sciences (Paris), this exhibition carries the endorsement of the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development.

Simultaneously entertaining and educational, its integrated concept is designed essentially to promote interactivity with public visitors through a combination of film, information panels, games, audio presentations, animations and science workshops for groups of children.

It is housed in a yurt, the traditional home of the nomadic peoples of Central Asia, which symbolizes harmony between man and the environment.
